GT Live Sessions - I’ll Be with Ali Ilagan

I’ll Be of Edwin McCain is one of those songs you like immediately after hearing it for the first time.  For the typical guitarist, it’s also one of those songs which can leave you practicing for hours just to perfect the uncanny rhythm and the more-than-normal plucking.  Ali would seem effortless in this song, but then again it’s probably because it’s one of the more popular songs that we covered.

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
Emeralds from mountains thrust toward the sky
Never revealing their depth
Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I’ll be captivated
I’ll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above
Chorus:
I’ll be your crying shoulder
I’ll be your love suicide
and I’ll be better when I’m older
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life

Rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
You’re my survival, you’re my living proof
My love is alive not dead
Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I’ll be captivated I’ll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache, that hang from above

Repeat Chorus

I’ve been dropped out, burned up, fought my way back from the dead
Tuned in, turned on, Remembered the things that you said

GT Live Sessions - Oo with Clara Reyes

Clara and her Enigmatic Smile

Oo. Unfortunately, this is our last cover from our first session with Clara. It’s the only OPM song we did, and suffice it to say that she gave this personal favorite of mine a much deserved justice. What troubled me more(in a good way) when I first heard this song, aside from the uncanny rhythm, are the lyrics. Rarely do you see in an OPM song truths spoken in a straightforward yet poetic way (Kung alam ko lang ako’y masasaktan ng ganito, Sana’y nakinig na lang ako sa nanay ko). More traditional OPM’s resort to flowery language, that sometimes the language gets in the way of appreciating what’s supposed to be artistic. (hehe, ba’t ba napunta dito ang usapan?)

Anyway, for interested talent scouts out there, Ms. Clara Reyes is considering a musical career after her studies. She would like to be in a band while at the same time managing her own business. There’s nothing like pursuing what you really want in this life, and it’s just a bonus that she’s just really talented.

We’ve been constantly on the look-out for homegrown talents, so if you think you have what it takes to show the world what Filipinos are made of, you can contact us through our email: guitar.tutee(at)gmail.com

This is the second Paramore hit that Ms. Clara Reyes has covered for us, and there is no doubt that Clara is destined for big time shows and performances in the future. She lists her favorite music artists as the following: Up Dharma Down, Sinosikat, and Alanis Morissette. Do you think she has what it takes to be in the position of these artists? Se has a lot to prove still, but we can certainly help her get there.

Anyway, here’s one of the best covers GT had, Thanks to Clara.

 Yeah Yeah Yeah-ya Yeah-ya
Why do you look so familiar
I could swear that I
Have seen your face before
I think I like that you seem sincere
I think I’d like to get
To know you a little bit more

I think there’s something more
Life’s worth living for

Who knows what could happen
Do what you do
Just keep on laughing
One thing’s true
There’s always a brand new day
I’m gonna live today like it’s my last day

Yeah Yeah Yeah-ya Yeah-ya
How do you always have an opinion
And how do you always find
The best way to compromise
We don’t need to have a reason
We don’t need anything
We’re just wasting time

I think there’s something more
Life’s worth living for

Who knows what could happen
Do what you do
Just keep on laughing
One thing’s true
There’s always a brand new day

Who knows what could happen
Do what you do
Just keep on laughing
One thing’s true
There’s always a brand new day
I’m gonna live today like it’s my last day

Find yourself
‘Cause I can’t find you
Be yourself
Who are you?
Find yourself
‘Cause I can’t find you
Be yourself
Who are you?

Who knows what could happen
Do what you do
Just keep on laughing
One thing’s true
There’s always a brand new day

So you go and make it happen
Do your best
Just keep on laughing
I’m telling you
There’s always a brand new day

Who knows what could happen
Do what you do
Just keep on laughing
One thing’s true
There’s always a brand new day
I’m gonna live today like it’s my last day
